Also known as ‘Silkscreen Printing’, Screen Printing is a process using light-sensitive materials and film-positive images to print on garments and many other materials.

The screen printing method requires a stencil and a nylon mesh. When set up, the stencil is held by the nylon mesh. A waterproof material will block the negative space on the stencil. This negative space will be the only part permeable for the dye. Ink is then flooded into the screen.

Screen-printing one of the best methods of printing to use when creating a large amount of merchandise due to its affordability. This method is ideal for printing high-quality t-shirt designs, because it guarantees ultimate replication of the design.

Advantages

  • Relatively low cost per shirt
  • Supreme quality
  • Faster to print one design multiple times
  • Ability to print multiple colours

Disadvantages

  • It gives off a plastic finish (for prints done with plastisol)
  • Small run-offs can be expensive
